Kundalini Yoga Basics  

If you are new to Kundalini Yoga, one of the first things you may notice is everyone is dressed in white and has their head covered. This is not a requirement, but there are reasons why many choose this attire.

It is believed that wearing white can enhance one’s aura and protect against negative energy from the outside world while also helping you go within to focus on yourself. We wear a head covering, often in white, to help the practitioner to contain and focus the powerful energies of Kundalini Yoga. Again, though it can be beneficial to wear white (or light-colored clothing) and a head covering, you can still get a lot out of this practice without doing either, so don’t feel like you’re missing out if you don’t have a closet full of white clothes or a head wrap.

Tips to Enhance Practice

  • Avoid eating a heavy meal 1-2 hours before the class
  • Listen to your body as you are the only one who knows your limits
  • Be open to the possibilities of healing as this practice is subtle but powerful
  • Props: a blanket for resting meditation and a couch pillow to sit on (optional)
